July 9 & 10th, 2010: Official opening of Brive Airport

On Friday 9th July, Jean-Louis Nesti (Chairman of the Syndicat Mixte de l’Aéroport and the CCI du Pays de Brive) officially opened the new airport, together with Dominique Bussereau (Secretary of State in charge of Transport) and other regional politicians. On Saturday afternoon, the public attended an air show hosted by the Patrouille de France.

It took about 30 years to carry out the project. The Dordogne Brive-Vallée airport opened on 15th June. That day, the morning flight to Paris took off for the last time from Brive-Laroche airport and the return flight (at 10.20) landed for the first time on the new airport’s runway.

From now on, Airlinair provides three daily services to Paris from Monday to Friday as well as one on Sunday evening. Since 25th June, City.Jet runs three weekly flights to London (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

The Syndicat Mixte entrusted the project to the ADPI (leader) / Egis Route / Iosis / Intramuros group. Egis Route, in partnership with ADPI, was responsible for studies and monitoring works contracts for earthworks, roadworks and drainage.

Key figures:

  • 5 years of work
  • €47.8M investment
  • 13 financial partners
  • 494 acres of land rights
  • 2.8 million m3 of earthworks
  • 800 tons of explosives
  • 2,100m of runway
  • 250 visitor parking spaces
  • 150,000 passengers expected within 5 years
