Bexprac: a comparative study of road maintenance and operating practices in Europe

The Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR), founded in 2003, has asked the Ecorys / Cowi / Egis Bceom International group (in partnership with Egis Route) to carry out a comparative study of maintenance and operating practices on the main networks of 13 European countries seeking to share their experiences.

The study includes:

  • Segmentation of the networks according to certain criteria: climate, traffic, condition, etc.
  • Segmentation of maintenance and operating tasks to work out common bases in terms of organisation and expenditure

The results will be presented in two parts:

  • A “macro-module” with a search for global indicators such as € per km covered, € per km equivalent for dual carriageways, related to the condition of the network, user comments, income per inhabitant, etc.
  • A “micro-module” for performance in terms of completing tasks. It will use field research to analyse the choice of organisation: execution resources supply contracts, global contracts, etc.

Egis Route is responsible for providing the technical expertise required to establish the relationship between the expenditure granted and the levels of service obtained for maintenance and operation in the different countries that have ordered the study.
